Today's Final Jeopardy - Thursday, March 31, 2022 (2023)

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Historic Places) for Thursday, March 31, 2022 (Season 38, Game 144):

Following a raid at this establishment in 1969, protesters confronted police by forming a Rockette-style kickline

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s contestants:

Christian Souvenir, a senior intelligence analyst from Brooklyn, New York
Today's Final Jeopardy - Thursday, March 31, 2022 (1)
Evan Roberts, a chemistry teacher from Louisville, Kentucky
Today's Final Jeopardy - Thursday, March 31, 2022 (2)
Jackie Kelly, a pension calculation developer from Cary, North Carolina (4-day total: $115,100)
Today's Final Jeopardy - Thursday, March 31, 2022 (3)

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: The very strong Jackie Kelly won her fourth game on yesterday’s show. Her game has been very strategically sound, and with her winnings total, she’s found herself at the top of the list of 4-day champions. Win #5 today will cement a spot in the Tournament of Champions, but Evan and Christian absolutely want to stop her.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

On June 28, 1969, the police attempted to raid the Stonewall Inn, a noted LGBTQ establishment in Greenwich Village in New York City. On this night, the raid did not go as planned—a scuffle broke out which turned into a spotaneous demonstration against the police, which included drag queens forming a Rockette-style kick line while staring down police in riot gear. The week-long demonstration galvanized the LGBTQ community and was seen as the start of the modern fight for LGBTQ rights in the United States. The first gay pride parades began a year later to mark the anniversary of Stonewall.

I also suspect that the subject matter of today’s Final Jeopardy is going to make the viewers who are on Twitter every day decrying “woke Jeopardy” uncomfortable. That’s not the show’s fault. This clue is about an important watershed moment in American history; if that makes you uncomfortable, well, some personal introspection might be required.

Game Recap:

Jeopardy! Round categories: Map Quest; In Memoriam 2021; Business Name Origins; Composers; Colleges & Universities; Everything From A to A

This game was very much a two-horse race, with Jackie and Evan both pulling out to a big lead over Christian—Evan being buoyed by picking up $2,000 on the game’s first Daily Double. Jackie performed the strongest after the break, jumping out to a bit of a lead after Single Jeopardy!, with Christian still in the red.

Double Jeopardy! Round categories: The Verb in the Novel Title; Time for Your Medicine; On TV in the Year 2000; Where the Streets Have a Name; She’s Only a Bird; In the Gilded Age

It took a very long time for the Daily Double to reveal themselves today—Jackie nearly had a runaway when she found the first one, but she only went for $2,000. Evan himself found the last one two clues later, and went for a still-conservative $5,000 on his. Both contestants being correct meant that we had a close game going into Final!

Scores going into Final were Jackie at $20,000 with Evan at $17,400 and Christian on the plus side at $1,000.

Today’s interviews:
Christian has spoken up to seven different languages.
Evan brought wine bottles into the US inside a poster container.
Jackie fulfilled one of her mom’s dreams by being on the show.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • A reminder as to why the show prompts for some incomplete responses and outright rules incorrect on others: In general, per the show’s rules, incomplete titles (like “Danube” instead of “Blue Danube”) are outright incorrect.
  • Link to the box score: March 31, 2022 Box Score

Final Jeopardy! betting suggestions:
(Scores: Jackie $20,000 Evan $17,400 Christian $1,000)

Jackie: Standard cover bet today is $14,801.

Evan: Your highest chances of winning today come if you bet between $5,201 (twice the score difference plus $1) and $12,199 (to still win the Double Stumper).

Christian: Assuming Jackie and Evan bet okay, there’s not much you can do. I’d bet $998 here—but whatever you do is fine.
